SOUNDSCAPE PROJECT

The main objective of this project is to create a 60 second soundscape in Adobe Audition using
five archived sounds and five self-recorded sounds. Soundscape is characterized as a
combination of sounds that forms or arises from an immersive environment consisting of the
natural acoustic environment and environmental sounds created by humans. My idea for this
project was to create a surprising spin on a typical acoustic concert by the beach. The five found
sounds I chose were ocean waves, Rusty Strings intro to their concert, glass breaking, crowd
cheering, and birds chirping. The five self-recorded sounds I used were wind, guitar riff, the base of a concert I previously went to, dogs barking, and a crowd cheering. I used many different
techniques to manipulate these sounds together. I started by placing all these sounds into a
Multitrack, then started to explore all the options and manipulations I could do to these sounds.
Then, I decided to start manipulating the Rusty Strings intro by changing the time and pitch
effect so that the man’s voice would gradually slow down and lower the pitch by an octave.
Then, I took the last word he said in his intro “here we go” and looped the track while changing
the time and pitch to gradually speed up. Next, I looped the ocean wave sound and, in some
parts, changed the pitch lower by an octave. I then manipulated the cheering sound by cutting,
looping, and lowering the volume. With the other found cheering sound I faded in and changed
the pitch of the sound to make it sound like a synth, then repeated the higher pitched part to
create somewhat of a background noise. Next, I used the base sound of a concert that I
previously went to and faded in / faded out to create a ending sound. The guitar riff sound was a
last-minute touch to include something interesting in the audio clip. The dog barking, wind, and
birds chirping sounds were included to add a natural environment effect. My goal with this audio

clip is to incorporate two very different feelings while listening: calmness turned to alternative intensity.
