AFTER EFFECTS PROJECT

The main objective of this project is to use Adobe After Effects to create a video from
found archive footage. “Found footage” is obtained by looking for public domain video footage
found on archive.org. Along with the video created on After Effects, a part of the assignment is
to create an audio for the “short film” using Adobe Audition. I first began completing this project
by tackling the audio. I chose two songs that I wanted to manipulate and combine, along with
some sound effects that went along with the theme of the video I wanted to create. Once I was
done with the audio, I then began creating the video or “short film”. I started off by searching on
archive.org for video clips that I thought would look interesting when there were added effects to
it. When looking for these video clips I specifically chose ones that lots of movement to them so
I could manipulate it by time framing, distortion, simulation, and color correction. Color
correction was the most interesting to add because there is a wide arrange of color manipulations
you could do to affect the whole video. Another thing to note is that I purposely chose videos
that were not in black and white so that I could manipulate them through color correction. A
important part of this video is the time framing effect. Through this I was able to slow down each
individual video to match the slow somber audio clip. The inspiration for my short film is the
intro to a TV show called “Nine Perfect Strangers”. The intro to this show is somber and eerie as
well. I wanted to challenge myself to step outside my comfort zone with this project to create a
video that directly effects the emotions of the viewer.
